If Sephardic history interests you,  our Lucena Jewish tour is a visit you will not want to miss.  Referred to as The Pearl of Sefarad, Lucena is one of the oldest and most important Jewish communities in Sephardic Spain. Our expert guide will explain and illustrate the reasons why this city was so prominent, its origins of existence,  and some of the legendary figures whose influence will not be forgotten in the Jewish history such as poet Ibn Gayat and Rabi Ibn Megas.

During our tour we will walk the streets of old Lucena stopping in different sites such as the Palace of the Counts of Santa Ana with its Jewish museum or the Torre del Moral. We will discuss the most important Talmudic school in Spain as well as the origins of the name Eliosana that gave name to the city. 

We will finally have the opportunity to try traditional sephardic pastries as well as going to a winery housed in an old building of Jewish architecture or seeing an artisan who makes Jewish hand made decoration.

         Lucena is a hidden jewel in the Andalucian region and very famous for the long heritage and lost community of Sephardic Jews.  Once a sprawling city that flourished in commerce and trade during medieval times, the city was a haven for many Jews seeking refuge from the unrest and never ending battles of the Caliphate in Cordoba. Many prominent figures influences throughout the region afforded protection during times of uncertainty and thus allowed the community to prosper and grow economically and socially.  Lucena bloomed as a center for Hebrew intellectuals and many poets and teachers were born there.

        Day tours typically last between 3 and 9 hours depending on how much time you choose. They include a guide, sometimes entrances and are pre-designed with a set itinerary.  These are walking tours but we can arrange bikes or segway.

        To book any of our tours, pick the size of your private group, the number of people traveling and add to cart. If you prefer not to make a full payment right away, you can opt to pay later.


        In this case, we will send you an invoice for 50% deposit and then as we get closer to your service date, you will pay the balance in full. This is very typical when the tour or trip is not going to happen for a while.

        If for any reason we can not fulfil the tour for the date you have chosen we will refund you immediately and let you know. A tour is not fully confirmed until we reply with a full confirmation.
