To this day, Cordoba holds one of the largest and best preserved Jewish Quarters in Europe and was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1984. Jews have been an important part of Cordoba´s cultural mix since the 2nd century. During the middle ages, Córdoba was a Moorish capital displaying one of the most important and largest Mosques in Europe but also living at the time was a thriving Jewish population.

While the rest of Europe lay in the dark ages, this splendid mecca of art and culture flourished, forging lasting links between east and west. During the 10th Century, it was known as an oasis of advanced civilization where scholars, poets, doctors, philosophers and mystics (many of them Jews) lived. Today the Judería offers a step back in time to Cordoba's golden age and the prosperity and religious tolerance that the Jews enjoyed while living among and under the rule of the Moors.

Our Jewish Córdoba Guided Tour will explore this influential capital and center of government that was also a melting pot of Christian, Muslim and Jewish culture. You have the option of extending the tour by adding on the Mosque if you would like to see it with the guide. You can also request guiding in the Jewish Sephardic Museum. You can specify this option when signing up. During the 11th and 12th century, the Jews would reach their greatest point of prosperity, intellectual energy and well being advancing under the rule of the Caliphate at the time who recognized them for their many contributions to society. Today it is easy to get to Córdoba on the high-speed train from either Madrid or Sevilla, making a guided tour through the old historic center, 14th-century synagogue and extensive judería (Jewish quarter) just a couple of hours away.
