| Excursion to El Escorial
6 hours 140€ pp (for 4 people) With Valley of the Fallen |
On this Excursion to El Escorial we'll catch a glimpse into Spain's history during two important periods. First we'll visit the eerie and controvercial memorial known as El Valle de los CaÃdos (The Valley of the Fallen), built under Franco in memory of the victims of the Spanish Civil War. Next we'll explore El Escorial monastery, where we'll travel back to the days of the inquisition during the reign of Philip II. Its treasures and immensity will reflect the influence and power of the Hapsburg dynasty. While El Escorial has long gained its fame from the Monastery, there are still some charming things to enjoy in this quaint town that was once ground zero during the inquisition days. El Escorial represents a vacation area for Madrileños who choose to have their summer getaways here. During the very warm summer months, people recognize it for the natural beauty and cooler temperatures. It makes for an ideal setting in the summer. | | | |
